Chapter 35 – Ashes of Truth

Morning broke with a dull, lifeless light.

Inside the locked room, Mira sat on the floor, her body trembling with exhaustion. Her bridal clothes were crumpled, her makeup smeared, her eyes swollen from crying all night.

She hadn’t slept.

She hadn’t stopped thinking.

Arav…

The name echoed inside her like a wound.

Suddenly, something inside her snapped.

She looked around frantically—and her eyes fell on a loose brick near the window.

With shaking hands, she grabbed it.

Thud.

She hit the glass.

Once.

Twice.

Again—

Until the window shattered.

Ignoring the cuts on her hands, Mira climbed out, her heart pounding wildly.

And then—

She ran.

---

At the same time—

On the highway—

Rani Sa stood near the accident site, surrounded by police officers.

The wrecked car was still there.

Twisted.

Burnt.

Destroyed.

Her eyes fell on the stretcher.

A body lay covered with a white sheet.

Her hands trembled as she stepped closer.

“Ma’am… the face is severely damaged,” the officer warned gently.

“But we have identified the body through documents and belongings. It is Mr. Arav Rathod.”

Rani Sa collapsed to her knees.

“No… no… my son…” she cried, her voice breaking into painful sobs.

The world blurred around her.

Her Arav.

Gone.

Just like that.

Rani Sa asked her bodygaurds,"Where is Mira?"

The bodyguards went to search for her. Sandeep’s servants informed the bodyguards that Arav was at Sandeep’s place last night and he couldn't control the liason of Sandeep with his wife.

---

Back at Sandeep’s house—

He stormed into the room only to find it empty.

The broken window.

The shattered glass.

His jaw tightened.

“She escaped.”

His eyes darkened with anger.

“Find her.”

---

The bodyguards informed Rani Sa about Mira’s infidelity. Rani Sa is furious.

The body was soon taken to the morgue.

The police began preparations to clean it for the final rites.

But the truth remained hidden—

Behind a face that no one could recognize.

---

Meanwhile—

Mira reached the Rathod mansion, breathless and trembling.

She rushed inside frantically.

“Arav!” she called out.

No answer.

The house felt… strange.

Silent.

Heavy.

She looked around desperately but couldn’t find Rani Sa.

Unaware that she was at the morgue.

Mira’s heart raced.

Something was terribly wrong.

She walked slowly to her room, her body weak, her mind shattered.

Without thinking, she went to the bathroom.

Water poured over her as she stood under the shower.

Washing away the blood.

The dust.

The fear.

But not the pain.

---

When she stepped out—

Servants stood outside her room.

Their faces were grim.

“Mam…” one of them spoke hesitantly.

Mira looked at them, her heart suddenly sinking.

“What happened?” she whispered.

They exchanged glances.

Then one of them said the words that destroyed her completely—

“Arav sir… is no more.”

The world went silent.

Mira’s body went numb.

Her lips parted, but no sound came out.

Then—

Everything went black.

She collapsed.

---

When Mira regained consciousness, she was lying on the bed.

Her head felt heavy.

Her soul… empty.

A maid placed a white saree beside her.

“You need to wear this,” she said softly.

“For the final rites.”

Mira stared at the saree.

White.

The colour of loss.

Her hands trembled as tears silently rolled down her cheeks.

---

Just then—

Rani Sa entered the room.

Her eyes were red from crying.

But now—

They burned with anger.

The moment she saw Mira—

Her grief turned into rage.

“You!” she shouted.

“You bad omen!”

Mira looked up weakly.

“You killed my son!” Rani Sa cried. “Your betrayal destroyed him!”

She raised her hand to slap Mira—

But before it could land—

Someone grabbed her wrist.

It was Sandeep.

“Calm down,” he said.

Rani Sa pulled her hand away furiously.

“You don’t know this woman!” she shouted. “She cheated on my son! She planned everything with her lover!”

Rani Sa asked him,"Who are you?"

Sandeep replied,"I'm Sandeep, Arav was with us last night".

Rani Sa says,"Mira has brought her boyfriend also now . You both have killed my son and don't want his soul to rest in peace".

Sandeep replied: "Aunty calm down. Everything was an accident. Its very unfortunate. Arav ne humari Shaadi ka bandobast khud kiya tha. Meine kuch nahi bola usko".

Mira shook her head weakly, tears streaming down her face.

“No… no…”

Her eyes suddenly turned toward Sandeep.

“You…” she whispered.

“You are responsible for this!”

Her voice rose with pain.

“You poisoned his mind! You showed him lies! You killed him!”

Sandeep’s expression hardened.

“Be careful with your accusations,” he said coldly.

Mira slapped Sandeep. Sandeep was numb.

---

The entire Rathod mansion drowned in mourning.

The air was filled with grief.

With blame.

With broken relationships.

---

Mira slowly stood up, her body trembling.

“I want to see him,” she said.

Rani Sa looked at her sharply.

“What?”

“I want to see Arav,” Mira repeated, her voice shaking. “I want to see his face.”

Rani Sa’s eyes filled with anger again.

“The face is destroyed!” she snapped. “There is nothing left to see!”

Mira shook her head stubbornly.

“No… unless I see him… I won’t believe he is gone.”

Sandeep stepped forward calmly.

“What will you understand by seeing it?” he said. “The face is completely damaged.”

But Mira’s eyes were filled with determination.

And pain.

“I still want to see him.”

Because somewhere deep inside—

Her heart refused to accept his death.

---

Precap

A hospital room.

Machines beeping.

A man lay on the bed, heavily injured, his body covered in bandages.

A woman leaned closer and asked softly—

“How are you? What’s your name?”

The man looked at her blankly.

“I… don’t know.”
