It was a Sunday evening in Roy Mansion and it wasn't just a special day because it was Sunday, it was special because it was Abhinav and Priya's 10th Anniversary. Abhinav Roy, the CEO of India’s largest advertising agency is a very successful man. He has a traumatic past regarding his love life which he has partially overcomed. But not fully-Why?
He had married Priya Raj 10 years ago, the daughter of a well-known business tycoon. Before he met Priya, he had somebody else in his life. Who vanished from his life like a storm in a cold december night. Abhinav is the son of the most influential business people of the town. The young woman whom he met 15 years ago and fell in love is no more. She was the sunshine of his life and her name was Mareena.
Mareena was as beautiful as the moon and Abhinav was her star. Her deep oceanic eyes had held immense love for him. Her long brown hair was a masterpiece of her beauty. Her every feature was perfect. Her doe shaped eyes, snub nose and full lips were just ravishing.
Abhinav was lost in Mareena's thoughts, when suddenly Priya had entered the dinning room. Priya poured wine on two glasses, and signaled at Abhinav. Abhinav is successful, married and rich but there is a subtle emotional distance between him and Priya. He was performing happiness. Priya had handed over the glass to him and said cheers. A soft and romantic tune was humming at the background.
Abhinav was struggling to focus. Every detail of the anniversary (the song, the wine, the date) triggers a memory. He was not mourning Mareena's death, but the life he lost. Seeing him looking lost, Priya tries to divert Abhinav. Priya says,"I love you so much, do you remember our first date? We ate your favourite hazelnut icecream. " Abhinav replies,"Yes I do, surely I do why wouldn't I?"
Priya smiled and the house employee started serving them the food. Abhinav recalled his moments with Mareena.
FLASHBACK
It was Mareena and Abhinav's engagement party, 15 years ago—vibrant, joyful, full of future promise. Abhinav had proposed her and gave her a diamond ring. Mareena was the happiest girl in the party and had hugged him. They had so much to say eachother, their future promises and plannings which were carried out by their playful banter.
Abhinav took her face between his palms, his thumbs brushing soft circles against her cheekbones, his eyes holding hers as if memorizing the sight. When their lips met, it was a gentle surrender that quickly deepened into a desperate conversation. She tasted the expensive wine and the unique, familiar scent of his cologne, a memory she would unknowingly cling to for years. It was a kiss of deep, unwavering commitment, but in the heart of the moment, a small, cold tremor ran down Mareena's spine, as if she were subconsciously saying goodbye.
FLASHBACK ENDS**
Abhinav was pulled harshly out of the memory by Priya's voice. Abhinav excuses himself—perhaps to the restroom or to get some air. He needed a moment alone to compose himself after the raw memory of Mareena. As he was alone, perhaps looking out a window or checking his phone, he saw her. Mareena. She looks more matured, harder, and carries a visible mark of her 15 years missing (a scar, extreme wariness, and clothes that look out of place).
Mareena doesn't approach. She just stands across the street, staring directly at him. She raises one finger to her lips—a universal sign for silence—and then disappears into the crowd or shadow. Did Abhinav imagine it? Is she real? And why did she signal him to keep silent?
